Seated Oblique Twists with Medicine Ball While some exercises have only one name, others enjoy multiple monikers. This is true of an exercise with a rather long name, Seated Oblique Twists with Medicine Ball, which is also known as a Russian Twist. Whatever one calls it, the exercise is geared toward helping people tone and flatten stomach muscles, namely the rectus abdominis muscle in the center of the abdomen and oblique muscles along the sides of the torso.
The Seated Oblique Twists with Medicine Ball, as its name suggests, requires that the user possess a medicine ball, which is a weighted fitness ball that is roughly the size of a basketball. While sitting on the floor with back flat, knees slightly bent, and the medicine ball in hand, the individual lifts his or her upper body to approximately a 45 degree angle, twisting the torso at the same time. When at the 45 degree angle, the individual then touches the floor beside him or her with the medicine ball. This is one fluid motion that is followed by the return to a lying position and repeat of the repetition, as many times as needed to accomplish a workout that will flatten stomach areas. For those who are wondering, the presence of the weighted medicine ball is said to make the exercise a bit more difficult.
